Add more data sources for your AI chatbot

(Updated on )

Maintain high level of accuracy by giving your AI chatbot multiple data sources. Learn how to use websites, web pages, and text prompts as your knowledge base.

How brands can benefit from multiple diversified sources:

  • Universities may offer third-party scholarships for their students. The Agent would be better equipped to answer scholarship-related questions if the data source would come from the third-party providers directly.
  • Retail stores that sell various brands may provide more details about products if data is pulled from the brand’s respective websites.
  • Hospitals can retrieve data from new medical journals or third-party insurance companies to answer user inquiries
  • Multinational companies that need to conform to the laws of multiple countries could add certain government web pages as data sources.

Method 1: Add websites as data source

Retrieve data from entire websites, including all the pages inside it.

Typically used to scan the user's business website, this method is great if you want your agent to learn from all the online content your business has to offer.

To get started:

  1. Go to Knowledge under Agent Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Create New Knowledge Base.
  3. Write a name for it in the Knowledge Base Name field.
  4. Under Source Type, open the Website tab.
  5. Fill in a website address in the Homepage URL field.
  6. Click Crawl Pages.
  7. (Optional) Curate your data source by removing unnecessary or detrimental pages in the Web Pages section.
  8. Click Create.

Method 2: Add individual web pages as data source

Retrieve data from individual web pages. Great for resources outside your business website.

To get started:

  1. Go to Knowledge under Agent Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Create New Knowledge Base.
  3. Write a name for it in the Knowledge Base Name field.
  4. Under Source Type, open the Website tab.
  5. Fill in the page address in both the Homepage URL and Web Pages.
  6. Click Create at the bottom.

Method 3: Add text prompts as data source

Use data not readily available online by adding it as a text prompt.

To add a text-based data source:

  1. Go to Knowledge under Agent Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Create New Knowledge Base.
  3. Write a name for it in the Knowledge Base Name field.
  4. Under Source Type, open the Text tab.
  5. Fill in the text box with your data.
  6. Click Create at the bottom.
