How to choose an AI model for your chatbot

(Updated on )

In ChatAgents, you can choose from a variety of AI Models to power your chatbot. Learn which ones fit your chatbot needs best.

How to switch between AI models

  1. Go to Agent Settings > General > Model Settings.
  2. In Model, select your AI model.
  3. In Temperature, use the slider to balance the consistency and creativity of your AI's responses.
  4. Optional: Edit your AI's role (this is the prompt you added when first creating the chatbot).
  5. Toggle Use General Knowledge to allow/disallow the AI to use it's own LLM general knowledge to respond to users.

How to choose the right AI model

It's all about knowing where your needs sit in terms of speed and complexity. Some models focus on very quick responses, some focus on doing more complex actions, while others have a more balanced approach.

GPT-4o
The most advanced model, giving the smartest and most natural responses. It’s the best choice when you want the most accurate answers or need the chatbot to handle complex questions smoothly.

GPT-4o Mini
Faster than GPT-4o but still more capable than GPT-3.5 Turbo and Gemini Flash, it strikes a good balance between speed and quality. It’s a solid pick for everyday conversations that don’t require deep reasoning.

GPT-3.5 Turbo
Best for handling straightforward questions and tasks. While it’s not as smart as the GPT-4o models, it’s consistent and performs well for basic chatbot interactions.

Gemini 2.0 Flash
The fastest model in this list, ideal when quick replies are more important than detailed ones. It’s great for simple tasks, but not as strong as the GPT models for more thoughtful or complex answers.

How Temperature works

Low Temperature (e.g. 0.2)
For more objective responses. The AI will add little to no creativity in its responses.
Useful for: customer support, knowledge bases, and technical assistance.

Medium Temperature (e.g. 0.5)
For more flexible responses. The AI will give a grounded response with a touch of creativity.
Useful for: general chatbots, lead capture, and blended customer interaction.

High Temperature (e.g. 0.8–1.0)
For more conversational, playful responses.
Useful for: branding bots, creative prompts, or engaging visitors in a more creative way.
